David Alonso continued to demonstrate supremacy in the second practice of the Catalunya MotoGP. Just like in the two sessions yesterday, the Colombian led with a new category record lap at the Barcelona circuit.
Several riders improved their times compared to yesterday afternoon’s practice. In the early minutes, the protagonist was Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM), who was actually the rider who led for the longest time – about 14 consecutive minutes.
The Spanish rider was later overtaken by José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo), but he only managed to maintain the lead for a minute before Alonso (CFMoto Gaviota Aspar) reached the top.
The South American rider further improved in the next attempt to set the circuit record at 1m46.111s. Rueda did not improve and was 0.670s behind, followed by Ortolá. Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) finished fourth. Riccardo Rossi (CIP Green Power/KTM) closed out the top five.
In the combined table of the two practices, David Almansa (Kopron Rivacold Snipers Team/Honda) occupied the 14th position to be the last to secure a direct spot in the second qualifying. Filippo Farioli (SIC58 Squadra Corsa/Honda), in 15th, missed the goal by just nine thousandths.
