Aleix Espargaró announced his retirement from MotoGP on Thursday but remains undecided about his post-racing plans, such as potentially becoming a test rider for Aprilia.
During a press conference, the Spanish rider expressed that he is not currently focused on his future career: ‘For sure I will do more kilometers with the bicycle, which is a thing that I love. But in terms of my future, we will have time to talk about it. Today, here in this place, I just want to enjoy this moment. I worked very hard on my career to arrive here’.
Espargaró emphasized that he still has the rest of the season ahead of him: ‘I still have a long season in front of me with one of the best bikes of the grid – a good opportunity to fight for podiums and victories. So we’ll have plenty of time’.
The Aprilia rider noted that while he is currently focused on enjoying the moment, there will be opportunities to test in the future: ‘I think also the future now with the changes on regulations, I will have some possibilities to be testing. But for the moment I just want to enjoy and have fun. I have one of the best bikes. I know that a lot of riders in this class today want my bike for the future. So I need to have fun for the rest of the season’.
