There are two Grand Prix at risk of not taking place in the 2024 MotoGP season – Kazakhstan, postponed without a new date due to floods in Central Asia; and India, due to a breach of contract by local promoters.
Hungary was the round chosen as a replacement on the original calendar, but even Balaton Park is facing some difficulties – with even the presence of the World Superbike Championship being questioned.
And what if Portimão hosted a second Grand Prix in Portugal, as it did in the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021? Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing/Aprilia) was asked about this scenario and responded:
– That really depends on the contract Dorna has for replacement circuits. I don’t know the details of the contract Dorna has with Portimão, to be honest. But of course, I would be happy, I don’t mind.
