Indian electric vehicle startup Orxa Energies has finally unveiled its first electric motorcycle, the Orxa Mantis. This performance-oriented naked electric motorcycle first appeared in prototype form in 2019, with the promise of reaching the market in mid-2020. However, as we all know, there was a pandemic during this period and the Indian brand’s projects were delayed.
Since then, the world has gotten back on its feet, and so has Orxa Energies. The new Mantis has finally been unveiled and, on paper at least, it looks pretty impressive. In recent years, we’ve seen a lot of performance-oriented electric motorcycles from India, and the Orxa Mantis is the latest of the bunch.
At the heart of the Orxa Mantis is a liquid-cooled electric motor with an output of 20.5 kilowatts, or around 27 horsepower. The torque figures seem reasonable, at 93 Nm. As such, Orxa claims that the bike has a top speed of 135 km/h and can go from 0 to 96.5 km/h in a modest 8.9 seconds. The motor and other functions of the bike are powered by an 8.9 kilowatt-hour battery that guarantees a range of up to 221 km on a single charge.
The Mantis can be fully charged in two and a half hours using the “Blitz” fast charger, while a normal 1.3 kilowatt charger takes five hours to fully charge. As well as powering the engine, the battery also controls all the bike’s other electronic functions. The Mantis is equipped with a large five-inch TFT color display, complete with smartphone pairing and navigation. An all-LED lighting system ensures visibility at night, while giving the bike a unique aesthetic due to the configuration of two LED spotlights. Other technological features include regenerative braking and ABS.
