Jorge Martín has already made it clear that he wants to be a factory rider for Ducati in MotoGP, and after being the runner-up in 2023 with the Prima Pramac satellite team, he has little else to prove. The rider will seek other options if he does not get the desired spot in 2025, but Jorge Lorenzo argues that first and foremost, #89 cannot leave Ducati in doubt about being the right rider.
The Mallorcan stated on the MotoGP website: ‘I think Ducati has the power it has because they have 7/8 very competitive riders and they already signed [Fermín] Aldeguer for four years. So now Ducati has the power, because the speed and the talent of 5/6/7 riders they have is very equal, so they have much options to chose’.
Lorenzo then emphasized that Martín will have to provide solid evidence to Ducati that he should be the chosen one for 2025: ‘For sure Jorge will need to demonstrate that he can dominate the races and the championship to be able to convince Ducati that he’s the man. If Ducati is not so clear, and Jorge and his manager make an ultimatum to Ducati, maybe Ducati will chose another rider. So he needs to demonstrate on the track that he’s faster than Pecco [Bagnaia] and other Ducati riders. So like this Ducati will have no doubts, I believe’.
