French trial and enduro specialists Sherco have launched a trial bike for younger, inexperienced riders with a touch of finesse.
The air-cooled 125 TY Long Ride offers casual riders a relaxed experience without the competitiveness and aggression of a competitive trial bike.
Sherco launched the Long Ride to a broad customer base, opting for ease of use and practicality over performance. Versatility is the focus here, and Sherco has created a bike that feels just as comfortable on shorter journeys as it does on a more demanding trial bike.
The 123.7 cc engine that powers the TY has a power output of 7.4 hp and, thanks to economical fueling, its 4.2-liter fuel tank should allow it to be used for around 160 km. Despite not being a powerhouse in terms of performance, the little Sherco is quite light at just 85 kg, which means it should be exceptionally easy to ride.
Both pedal start and electric start are available to bring the engine to life, which is a copy of Yamaha’s reliable YBR engine, sharing the same capacity, bore and stroke. Thanks to its road bike-derived engine, the Long Ride’s five-speed gearbox should have a wide range of ratios for mixed use.
Spare parts should be plentiful and it’s unlikely that the engine will have any problems doing kilometers on the road, whether it’s for a more urban trip or for off-road fun.
The TY may be as minimalist as motorcycles come, but it still comes with a horn, as well as front and rear lights – the bare minimum for a road-legal model. The 18/21″ spoked wheels are present at both ends and the basic suspension provides 170 mm of rebound at the front, while offering 165 mm of travel for the rear wheel.
