In October 2023, German tire specialist Metzeler announced that it would be launching its newest high-performance road tire dubbed the Roadtec 02, and now the brand has finally unveiled the new tires to the public.
The Pirelli-owned company promises some pretty impressive claims about the new tires and even goes so far as to market them as “two tires in one”, since the new Roadtec 02 tires incorporate what Metzeler calls “Dynatread Technology”. This adaptive tread design is said to suit various driving styles, occupying a category of its own.
Metzeler calls it a Super-Sport-Touring tire.
Essentially, the tread design of the new Roadtec 02 is inspired by the Sportec M9 RR. On the Roadtec 02, however, the rear tire features a dual compound construction to increase longevity, as well as an all-silk front tire to improve wet traction.
According to Metzeler, this means that the Roadtec 02 offers a sporty and dynamic riding experience similar to that of its M9 RR supersport tire, while also providing greater longevity and improved performance in wet conditions – quite a strong statement for a sport-touring tire.
Better still, Metzeler hasn’t forgotten about environmental sustainability. The company claims that the new tire is composed of 43% bio-based and recycled materials, certified by the French certification agency Bureau Veritas.
Like most sports and sport-touring tires, Metzeler’s new Roadtec 02 is available in sizes to suit all modern naked, sport and sport-touring bikes. There are even some 19-inch front wheel options for those with road-oriented adventure bikes. You can check all the available sizes on the official Metzeler website.
On paper, Metzeler’s new Roadtec 02 tires look like a pretty impressive set of rubber. Stay tuned for our Isle of Man test of the new Roadtec 02 tires in Motociclismo Magazine and on the Motorcycle Sports program on SportTV.
