The MotoGP World Championships return this weekend, with the second round of the year in Spain. Now it’s time for the Catalan GP in Barcelona, in MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3, and also in MotoE which will have the third round of the season.
In MotoGP, Jorge Martín (Pramac/Ducati) leads comfortably, with a 38-point advantage over Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati). Therefore, whatever happens, the Spaniard will leave Catalonia in the lead. Right behind are Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) and Enea Bastianini (Ducati), both 40 points off the top.
Fifth is Maverick Viñales who, like his Aprilia teammate Aleix Espargaró, has legitimate ambitions for a successful GP after the Noale manufacturer dominated in Barcelona last year. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM) is sixth, looking to bounce back to good results after his first retirement of the year. The same goes for Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse/Aprilia), after having his first zero-point race in 2024 in France.
The fight in Moto2 is more open. Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) is in first, but with only seven more points than Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) who is still chasing his first win of the season. Fermín Aldeguer (SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) is third with the same 63 points as Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), and none of them can snatch the lead which is 26 points away.
As for Moto3, Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) is leading the championship with just one more point than David Alonso (CFMoto Aspar). The fight for the title seems to be between these two riders, as the third, Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP), is already 31 points behind the second place.
After Portimão and Le Mans, MotoE will have the third round of the year. Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) still leads with only podiums, having two more points than Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing), who is the strong candidate to win: something he has only failed to do in one of the four races already held so far. In third place is Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar), already 30 points behind the top.
