Fabio Quartaro in an interview with ‘Relay’ spoke about the changes at Yamaha and his renewal with the Japanese manufacturer. The French rider also talked about when Yamaha could become competitive again.
The MotoGP world champion in 2021 began by talking about the moment when Yamaha started to become less competitive.
– Already at the end of 2022. Since the end of 2022, if we look at it, I haven’t won any races. I haven’t won any races since the end of the year. And, as I’ve already said, we need to make a big change to fight next year. We have managed to fight, but because I had, for me, a better year than in 2021.
He also added about one of the toughest moments of his career: ‘I think it was last year in Jerez, because every year I went there in MotoGP I fought for victory. Except in 2021, when I had compartment syndrome, but I was first with a two-second lead. And in 2019 I was in second place and my gears broke. And last year in Jerez we qualified, I think in 15th or 16th, very far back, and there we really saw that we were losing a lot.’
