Francesco Bagnaia finished the Le Mans GP 38 points behind his rival, Jorge Martín. With the arrival of the Catalunya GP this weekend, the Italian rider will have to surpass Martín if he wants to shorten the distance to the championship leader.
In statements to MotoSprint, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider talked about the approach he will take during the upcoming weekend.
– First of all, finish the race: like in France, for two years I haven’t crossed the finish line. In 2022 I was knocked down in the first corner, last year I crashed in the second, at least I hope to make it through four corners! It was another track where we were very fast last year, we were going very fast. The race on Sunday with the medium tire probably would have given us another victory, but that’s what happened.
Pecco expressed his liking for the circuit: ‘It’s a circuit that I have always liked a lot. It’s definitely not the safest in the World Championship, due to the asphalt. That’s why it’s dangerous to race there, but it’s one of the most beautiful and characteristic circuits.’
He also added about the competitiveness of this year and talked about his biggest rival: ‘It’s difficult. It’s a tough championship, so many riders are performing well, so many competitive bikes to win, a bit like in recent years. It will be even more complicated. Surely Martín is the number one rival at the moment.’
