This year, Axel Bassani took a new direction in his career in the World Superbike Championship, leaving Motocorsa Racing and Ducati to join the official Kawasaki team. Like any adaptation to a new reality, it takes time to unfold.
Manager Alberto Vergani told GPOne.com that it is a challenge the rider is not afraid of, and that Kawasaki is aware of the type of program it is:
– With Axel, there is a growth project planned over two years with the goal of quickly adapting to the bike. It is obvious that going from a Ducati to a Kawasaki is not easy, but he is a rider who is not afraid of these challenges. In these first races, I think he has shown growth, already finishing in the top ten.
Although acknowledging that Bassani has not always done his best in the early part of the season, Vergani considers the adaptation task significant: ‘In other situations, he may have been able to do more, but he had bad luck, but everyone at Kawasaki is aware that Bassani is in a growth project without rush or stress. I think Bassani is experiencing his first real season as a professional, in which he is learning various new dynamics, so as a result, Kawasaki is the challenge he needs‘.
In the first three rounds, Bassani has recorded four points-scoring results, with the best being ninth place in the first race at Assen. He is currently in 16th place in the championship.
