Ducati has a difficult choice on their hands. Only one spot in the official team is available for 2025, with at least three strong candidates vying for it. And whoever misses out is likely to end up in a rival team.
On one hand, there’s Jorge Martín. The Spanish rider from Prima Pramac leads the championship comfortably after five rounds and has made it clear that he wants to be in a factory team next year – with Ducati being his priority.
Then, there’s Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati), an eight-time world champion (six in the premier class) who is showing this year that his abilities to fight at the top are still intact after the difficulties of recent seasons.
As for the third candidate, it’s Enea Bastianini, currently with Ducati. He is currently fourth in the championship and has consistently finished in the top five in main races, proving that he deserves the spot.
Only two riders are certain for Ducati: Francesco Bagnaia in the main team until 2026; and Fermín Aldeguer, who will debut in a satellite team next year.
Ramón Forcada revealed that the situation for the Borgo Panigale manufacturer is not easy. Speaking on the Dura La Vita podcast, the engineer disclosed that Ducati itself doesn’t know what to do at this moment:
– I have information from Ducati. They have a problem of “who do I let go?”. The thing is, if they let go of the good ones… and another thing is that they also have Aldeguer, there are already five in play. They told me, “what amuses me is that nobody knows what we are going to do… and neither do we.” Pramac only has to decide whether to invest in Márquez or not, because they have him, they have, they don’t have to go get him. I wouldn’t know what to choose.
