Starting in 2027, MotoGP will have new technical regulations, impacting various areas of the bike – from aerodynamics, which will be reduced and have fewer development possibilities, to the engine.
And one of the most significant changes will happen in the engine. In order to make the bikes less fast, thus favoring safety, the displacement will be reduced from the current 1,000 cubic centimeters to 850cc.
The four-cylinder architecture will remain, so it is not a revolution at the engine level. And former rider Franco Uncini believes that there will not need to be significant investments with the new rules.
The Italian stated to the website GPOne.com: ‘I do not agree that they start a bit from scratch, because the reduction in displacement, in my opinion, is seen from the perspective of keeping the engines that already exist. That is, from 1,000cc they reduce to 850cc of displacement, but definitely they will not completely change the engine, so they will not have to make investments to completely redesign the engine and do it again. In my opinion, it is a reduction in displacement to keep the engine as it is’.
