Jorge Prado gave a pilotage recital competing at home in the MXGP of Galicia, counting for the MXGP motocross World Championship. The Spaniard won both races dominantly on Sunday in Lugo, after doing the same in the qualifying race the day before.
The first race was a one-way street. The Red Bull GasGas Spaniard took the lead in the first lap and never let go, although Romain Febvre (Kawasaki) never let him “breathe”. The Frenchman finished 2.036s behind Prado and also had to withstand the pressure from Calvin Vlaanderen (Monster Energy Yamaha), who finished third.
The Dutchman completed his recovery in the third lap, when he overtook Valentin Guillod – who only finished eighth. Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) was fourth, but didn’t have the pace of the top three and finished 16.658s behind the winner. The top five was completed by Jeremy Seewer (Kawasaki).
The events of the second race were not much different. Prado started well again and led every lap of the race, although he had a rival who was never considerably far behind. This was Herlings, who crossed the finish line 2.880s behind. For that, the Dutchman had to come out on top in a more intense battle for second place, where he overtook Tim Gajser (Team HRC) only on the penultimate lap.
The Slovenian finished in third place, 10.110s off the top, with Febvre this time finishing fourth ahead of Glenn Coldenhoff (Fantic) and Seewer.
The absolute winner of the MXGP of Galicia was Prado, with a maximum of 50 points. Herlings and Febvre finished second and third, respectively, with 40 points, while Gajser was fourth by scoring 35 points. The top five of this round was completed by Vlaanderen, just one point behind the Honda rival.
