Álex Rins managed to score points again with a 15th place in the French MotoGP Grand Prix. However, it was a tough race for the Monster Energy Yamaha rider, who for much of the race was stuck behind Luca Marini (Repsol Honda), unable to overtake the opponent.
The Spaniard spoke about these difficulties, which he considers to have been the major problem in the Le Mans race: ‘It was really difficult for me. I had a lot of difficulties at the beginning to overtake the rider in front of me. This was the main problem. At the start, the front wheel was a bit too high and I lost some positions. But then, lap after lap, I was stuck behind Marini. I was trying to manage the amount of throttle to get good traction to get close to him and overtake him on the straight or under braking. But it was really impossible, he was pulling away. This was the biggest problem‘.
At a certain point, Rins managed to overtake the Italian rival, and then had to manage as best as possible: ‘When I was riding alone, with the problems we had all weekend, I was able to manage more or less, riding in the low 1m32s with problems to stop the bike, lots of sliding entering the corners‘.
For the Yamaha rider, it was a round to understand and gather information, before an important test in Mugello starting tomorrow: ‘This weekend was a weekend to understand and gather information, because I didn’t feel like we made progress day by day. Now it’s very important to regroup. We will be back on the bike in Mugello for an important test, and we’ll see if we can improve‘.
