Jett Lawrence was calm, conservative, and secured the AMA Supercross 450 title this weekend, in his debut season! The Honda rider did not take too many risks and preferred to play it safe, and in the end, after a successful season, he finished with the most coveted trophy in Salt Lake City, on a day when Chase Sexton, the reigning champion from 2023, left no chances for the competition.
The main event started with Justin Cooper making a strong start and Chase Sexton right behind, overtaking him a few turns later. The first few laps were crazy as usual, with Jason Anderson taking Hunter Lawrence off the track after the whoops section, causing him to fall.
Jett Lawrence finally reached fourth place behind Webb before almost losing control, dropping to sixth place. Midway through the race, Jason Anderson focused on Webb, who was in third, while Malcolm Stewart managed to overtake Jett Lawrence, who had settled into “championship mode,” solely focused on the title and controlling his race rather than aiming for victory.
At the front, Sexton continued to lead, while Justin Cooper was having his best race of his career in the 450 class – so far – even being the fastest rider on the track about six minutes from the end.
At the end, it was Sexton with a perfect day, P1 in qualifying, victory in the qualifying race, and winning his second main event of the season. Justin Cooper in second, Webb in third, and Jason Anderson in fourth, couldn’t complete a pass on Webb after Hunter Lawrence, who was being lapped, decided to retaliate against Anderson for his earlier move.
Jett Lawrence finished seventh and secured his seventh consecutive title, becoming only the third rider ever to win the premier class in Supercross in his rookie season.
