At the beginning of the week, the new MotoGP rules for 2027 were presented, which will reduce the size of the front fairing and limit the development of aerodynamics at the rear. There will also be new engines with a smaller displacement (850cc), and the holeshot and height adjustment devices will be banned. Miguel Oliveira commented on the news.
When asked if these new regulations will make overtaking easier, the Trackhouse Racing rider said that there are more causes of difficulties in overtaking and there is not a great limitation of aerodynamics:
– That is a big question mark. I feel that now we have reached a point where actually overtaking is difficult because of the aerodynamics that make the bikes heavier, because of tire pressures, but also because of the speed we approach the corner. If we reduce that speed and approach the corner, it will probably be easier to overtake. But I believe that aerodynamic limitations are not limiting so much, so you can still have a lot of aerodynamic load.
On the other hand, Oliveira wanted something different at the engine level, and agrees with the end of the holeshot and height adjustment devices: ‘I was probably… not disappointed, but I was expecting something different in terms of the engine. Going to 850cc is not my favorite thing among all the news, but getting rid of the holeshot devices, I totally agree with that‘.
