Jorge Lorenzo had controversies and rivalries during his MotoGP career. One of those rivalries was with Dani Pedrosa. The two Spanish riders never got along on and off the track.
Lorenzo, in statements for the podcast “The Wild Project,” talks about his relationship with the Spanish rider.
– He was rude. But also because his childhood coach, when he was in his twenties, was Alberto Puig, who was a dry and direct person. He was his influence, his sporting father, and he learned a lot from Alberto Puig and they had a very similar behavior. Alberto does not admit it, but there were rumors at the time that he told Pedrosa not to talk to rivals, not to greet or talk to rivals.
He also added about Alberto Puig’s way of being at the time: ‘At that time, Alberto Puig was also very strict and kept Dani on a short leash and was very imposing. He imposed himself a lot on Dani and he tried to imitate him a little, but don’t ask me why. The vast majority of people saw him as super nice. If you ask journalists, they will tell you that he was a jerk, that he was rude, and that he attacked.’
