Recently, MotoGP announced the new regulations that will come into effect starting in 2027. The new rules will revolutionize the methods used by teams up to the present day.
However, Aprilia reacted to these changes that will be better for some and worse for others in the championship. In statements, according to GPOne, Paolo Bonora spoke about Aprilia’s vision regarding the new rules and how he is not very supportive of bikes with 850cc.
– It was because that would mean completely redesigning the engine, so we preferred to reduce performance and stick with the 1000cc. However, to reach an agreement with the other manufacturers, we aligned on 850cc engines with a 75 millimeter diameter. Our expectation was a substantial reduction in power and maximum speed, which was necessary to curb this escalation.
He also added about aerodynamics: ‘On the top, while on the bottom there will be no changes, and that was something that Aprilia wanted, to further develop the ‘ground effect’ fairing, our flagship,” continued the Aprilia man, this time regarding aerodynamics. ‘How big is the change? Very big. We will be on the edge of the rider’s coverage, it will be a challenge to completely fit the rider within the aerodynamic profile. The front wings will definitely be smaller and, therefore, will have less downforce with a smaller cross-section.’
