Development concessions are not yet reflected in Honda’s results in MotoGP. Despite radically changing the bike, the performance of the RC213V seems to have worsened compared to the competition and even the points-scoring positions are out of reach.
Television commentator Neil Hodgson spoke about the difficult reality that Honda is facing, stating to TNT Sport: ‘They are in a big hole, a huge hole. The way they started the season is so out of rhythm. In America, the four Hondas were the last four. One thing is to be slow, another thing is to be slow and crash. What that tells you is that the riders are still pushing, still giving everything. And crashing. Crashing in last place almost seems like a joke, but that’s the position they are in‘.
Hodgson’s recommendation is for Honda to focus on the future from now on, using the Grand Prix races as opportunities to accelerate the development of the bike:
– They have to discard this season. In my opinion, they can also try things every weekend. They have to do it. Accelerate. We know they have concessions, so they have more tests anyway, but they can also use tires for race weekends as tests. Because they are not going anywhere in the championship, they are in the middle of nowhere. That’s how I see it.
After the first four rounds, the Honda teams (Repsol Honda and LCR Honda) are in the last two positions in the championship. In the constructors’ standings, Honda is last with only 13 points, being the only manufacturer that has not scored in all Grand Prix races so far.
