Liam Everts achieved a great victory in the MX2 in Águeda yesterday by conquering a double win on Portuguese soil, with the cherry on top meaning a rise to third place in the overall standings.
In the first race, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider dethroned Simon Laengenfelder (Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing) by 5.880 seconds, which demonstrates the difference between the two front runners and the rest, since, if 5s is a considerable difference, the third-placed rider of the day, precisely the teammate of #516, finished 33.021s behind the winner.
The top five was completed by the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory duo, with Rick Elzinga and Thibault Benistant finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
For the second race yesterday in Águeda, the differences to the leaders were even more noticeable, with Everts dominating with a 1:21.173s lead over Elzinga, this time, while Mikkel Haarup, from Monster Energy Triumph, was third with a 2:25.313s gap. Yes, you read that right!
Benistant finished fourth and thus improved one position compared to the previous race, finishing ahead of Jens Walvoort (KTM SB Racing).
By analyzing both races, it is possible to see that this was a particularly challenging round for many, with some riders being lapped several times.
Everts thus earned 50 points and rose to third place in the MX2 with 188 points, while Kay de Wolf, the leader with 246, only managed to score 32 points in Portugal.
