Ivo Lopes participates this weekend in the Estoril round of the Moto2 European Championship, replacing the injured Brett Roberts at EasyRace Team… and he is doing well.
The Portuguese rider pilots a Boscoscuro, which is one of the most competitive bikes in the field. After not taking part in the first free practice, he got into action in FP2 with the 18th time, 2.753s off the leader Daniel Muñoz (Gas Up Racing Team/Kalex).
In the qualifying session, Lopes showed clear improvements: he ended up in 12th position, with a faster time, although he was 1.474s slower than the leader Roberto García (Fantic Cardoso Racing/Kalex).
This result secured the Portuguese a direct presence in the second phase of qualifying, which will take place this afternoon. García was the fastest, with a 0.636s margin over Unai Orradre (STV Laglisse Racing/Kalex). Jinlin Li (Gas Up Racing Team/Kalex) and Jona Eisenkolb (F. Koch Rennsport/Kalex) exceeded the maximum qualifying time and will not participate in the rest of this round.
