This year, several riders are coming to the end of their contracts in MotoGP. This not only means that rumors have been plentiful, but also an open transfer market with many opportunities to seize – both for riders and teams.
Decisions are made relatively early, in many cases even before half of the season has been completed. Examples of this are the renewals of Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) – although both have already been champions with their respective teams, making the renewal the most logical step.
Danilo Petrucci commented to the website GPOne.com that more time should be given when it comes to signings, in addition to taking some weight off the riders:
– The market is advancing more and more. For me, we should evaluate more than half of the championship and not just a few races. I also hope that they do not make this situation weigh too heavily on the riders, because these choices destabilize you a lot.
The Italian, who currently competes in the World Superbike Championship, also said: ‘Knowing that you are in the running for a factory team is good, but difficult, you know it is an opportunity that can change your life at a sporting level. You worry, that’s for sure‘.
