The two-wheeler and tricycle market recorded a growth of 2.9 percent from January to April 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year.
In April 2024, the market for new two-wheeler and tricycle vehicles registered a growth of 7.9 percent compared to April 2023, with 4,439 units registered. The market for European category L quadricycles saw a decrease of 9.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, with 100 vehicles registered.
In cumulative terms, from January to April 2024, 14,144 new two and three-wheeled vehicles were registered in Portugal, representing an increase of 2.9 percent compared to the same period in 2023. As for quadricycles, they showed a growth of 6.3 percent in this same period compared to the same period of the previous year.
In an individualized analysis by the main types of vehicles, during the mentioned period, the following was observed:
Mopeds
The market for newly registered mopeds totaled 244 units in April 2024, showing a negative variation of 6.2 percent compared to the same month in 2023.
Em termos acumulados, de Janeiro a Abril de 2024, foram matriculados 589 ciclomotores, o que se traduziu num decréscimo de 16,9 por cento relativamente a igual período do ano anterior.
Motociclos
No mês de abril de 2024 foram matriculados em Portugal 4.178 motociclos, o que representou um crescimento de 9,0 por cento face a igual mês de 2023. Em termos acumulados, no primeiro quadrimestre de 2024, o número de unidades matriculadas aumentou 4,3 por cento face ao período homólogo do ano anterior, tendo sido colocados em circulação 13.488 novos motociclos.
Os motociclos elétricos registaram, em Abril de 2024, um total de 29 unidades matriculadas em Portugal, o que representou uma queda de 53,2 por cento face ao mês homólogo do ano anterior.
Em termos acumulados, de Janeiro a Abril de 2024, foram matriculados 129 motociclos elétricos novos, representando uma queda de 43,7 por cento face ao período homólogo do ano anterior.
Os motociclos de cilindrada até 125 cm3 registaram, no quarto mês do ano, um total de 2.009 unidades matriculadas em Portugal, o que representou uma ligeira queda de 0,6 por cento face ao mês homólogo de 2023.
Quanto ao número acumulado de motociclos até 125 cm3 matriculados nos quatro primeiros meses de 2024, este situou-se em 6.233 unidades, o que representou um aumento de 3,8 por cento face a igual período do ano anterior.
Regarding motorcycles with a displacement greater than 125 cm3, in the fourth month of 2024, 2,140 vehicles of this type were registered, representing an increase of 22.4 percent compared to the same month in 2023.
In cumulative terms, between January and April 2024, 7,126 motorcycles with a displacement greater than 125 cm³ were registered, which represented a growth of 6.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Tricycles
In April 2024, the tricycle market experienced a decrease of 26.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, with 17 units registered.
From January to April 2024, the tricycle market registered 67 vehicles, showing a decrease of 33.7 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
Quadricycles
The quadricycle market stood at 100 units registered in April 2024, representing a decrease of 9.1 percent compared to the same month in 2023. In the first four months of 2024, quadricycle registrations showed a growth of 6.3 percent compared to the same period in 2023, with 486 quadricycles registered.
