The MotoGP season has been witnessing new track records at the circuits visited so far, with the Portuguese GP being the only exception. The bikes are clearly more competitive, a matter addressed by Enea Bastianini (Ducati).
Asked about the reason for this improvement, the Italian from Ducati said in a press conference that there are several possible factors, but tires are an important aspect:
– I think speed depends on several, several things. I think the tires have improved a lot during this year, but also the high level of MotoGP is getting better every year. We saw especially during the Sprint race a very good speed, but I think with the new generation of tires you can put a lot of energy in the front. Our problem now is a bit of vibrations in the rear, it may depend on grip.
Faster bikes can mean more safety concerns, especially on circuits with short run-off areas. On the subject of safety, Bastianini commented: ‘We talk a lot about safety and I think in every GP we try to improve and have a good relationship with safety to have the opportunity to be safer in the future‘.
