Pedro Acosta is making an impact in MotoGP since his debut in March at the Qatar GP. He already has two podiums in the main race and, after four rounds, he is in the top five of the championship. The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rider may be a surprise to many, but not to KTM and its technical director, Sebastian Risse.
The engineer told the championship’s official website that Acosta’s performances are not a surprise: ‘Honestly, I am not surprised, but I am very, very impressed. In other categories, you could see how quickly this guy learns. How adaptive he is. But of course, with several other riders moving to MotoGP, it’s a different game, it can go either way‘.
On track, Acosta has shown no fears or hesitations in direct duels against experienced and high-quality rivals like Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati). And even in his off-track work ethic, according to Risse, the rookie shows high levels of calmness and confidence:
– Usually you have to force a rookie to be calm, to stick with the bike setup, not to turn it inside out, and instead learn. Pedro is very opposite to that. He is so happy with the bike, and with what he has. He is so eager to simply extract the most from it, and to focus on what he can do, before reacting on the technical aspect. He is very, very calm and very, very confident.
