The chief engineer of Aprilia Racing spoke about the level at which the Italian manufacturer stands compared to its rivals, KTM and Ducati.
With Maverick Viñales’ recent positive results, the RS-GP 24 has shown good performance levels in the last GPs. Romano Albesiano, in statements according to motosan.es, talked about this evolution of Aprilia and compared the results with KTM’s rivals.
– ‘Journalists make these rankings, we don’t. I’m just saying that last year, and also this year, Aprilia beat KTM in races. So, I don’t know if KTM is Ducati’s top rival. For Maverick, it is essential to find the balance between how the front tire works and the rear tire. KTM is undoubtedly a reference. I think we are at a good level and we are certainly not in a position, as I have already mentioned, to surpass the others at the beginning. The riders are asking us to be able to recover at the start.’
He also added the work being done to improve the performance of Aprilia riders: ‘Speaking in terms of work, we are investing a lot in the start, while the rest is evenly distributed between the engine, transmission, and aerodynamics. Also because the start is the area where there is more room to gain. Aleix has already tested some updates, but as he also said, it will take some time before we can adopt the solutions in the race, because there are still improvements to be made, not so much in the starting phase, but in the driving conditions.’
