The future of Marc Márquez in MotoGP is once again shrouded in uncertainty – his stay in the paddock is a certainty, with the question remaining whether it will be with Gresini, the official Ducati team, or another, as he is at the end of his contract and is showing good performances.
After the podium at the Spanish GP, the Spaniard was quoted by the website Motosan.es saying that the results and performances will dictate the possibilities he may have for the future – that being his focus:
– The important thing is for the results to come. Until now there was speed, but the results were not coming. Now it seems they have arrived, we must confirm it in Le Mans. I have always said: the faster you are on track, the more options you will have. The important thing, and what I try to focus on, is not only being fast, but also precise and helping in whatever they may ask of me. And from there we will see.
Márquez admitted that there have been talks, there are several options, and he knows well what he wants: ‘The important thing is that the decision, the plan [to go to Ducati] is going well. And logically, when there are results, the factories will contact you. There have been talks. Mentally, I am quite clear about what I want. It depends on everything in general, but the important thing is that I have it clear and I don’t have just one option‘.
After leaving Repsol Honda at the end of last year, the eight-time world champion joined Gresini on a contract only until 2024. The main goal was to return to good performances, moving away from the difficulties that Honda has been facing, but it is not expected that he will stay long in a satellite team if the results continue to come.
