Marc Márquez’s adaptation to the Ducati Desmosedici GP23 is practically complete, and after an initial phase in which he did not make considerable changes to the bike’s settings, he has already started working on that aspect.
The Gresini Spaniard explained to the press after yesterday’s test in Jerez: ‘The issue is that in the tests in Malaysia and Qatar and in the races in Qatar and Portimão, we didn’t touch the bike’s settings much. Because I told them that I needed to adapt. And then I realized in Portimão, “Well, here’s the limit”‘.
At this point, Márquez is also focusing on adjusting the bike: ‘Now I feel that my adaptation to this bike was already in the final stages. So it was time to tell them, “Now is the time to give me with the tuning, not with new things, but with the tuning of the bike, for my riding style”. Help me with my weaknesses and try not to just focus on my strengths; also try to help me with my weaknesses’.
According to the eight-time world champion, this is the work trajectory he continues to follow: ‘We are going in that direction and in this test we took another step in that direction, and step by step I feel better and better. But when you are fast and consistent, then it is much easier to test things’.
Questioned if the Jerez test allowed him to be faster, Márquez replied: ‘I hope and wish, and this is the intention. My fastest lap was the third, later I improved a bit. But I went out on the track and immediately did a 1m36s. So, let’s see. I tried something at the end of the day that I liked. But it is true that with a lot of rubber on the track you don’t know. But it will help, I think it will help because we are going more in the direction that I want’.
