After difficult months, Marco Bezzecchi is finally back to good results in MotoGP. The rider started from the front row in the Spanish GP and finished in third place to achieve his first podium of the year. He finished just behind Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) and Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati).
The outcome was naturally satisfying for the Pertamina Enduro VR46 rider, who highlighted in a press conference the fact of being back in the top positions after the difficulties, being competitive from the start in Jerez:
– I am very happy to be here on the podium again. It was a tough end of the season last year after my shoulder injury, but also the beginning of this year with the new bike. I had some difficulties adapting to my new bike. I am very happy to be here, I am very competitive to be competitive throughout the whole weekend. Also in qualifying, but also in the Sprint I was there. Even though I crashed, I knew my feeling was good.
In Bezzecchi’s opinion, the start was an essential moment of a race in which he enjoyed battling with Bagnaia and Márquez: ‘The start was the key in the race and it was good to fight with these riders, to have a battle with Marc and with Pecco. I tried to follow Pecco, but he was a little too fast. But with Marc I overtook him a few times. I am very happy with the performance’.
Questioned about whether this improvement in performance is due to riding or bike tuning, the Italian replied: ‘Well, I think it’s a combination of everything. Of course, the bike has improved. My team has done a wonderful job from the beginning of the year until now. I also tried to adapt; for me it was difficult to get used to this new bike, because compared to last year’s bike it’s different in a difficult way for me. I wasn’t confident with the front, I didn’t feel good with the front of the bike. When you lack confidence in the bike, it’s a bit complicated. So, I think it’s a combination. Of course, Vale [Rossi] gave me a lot of advice during this time. It was good to have him here as well, especially for the start he helped me a lot. But I think it’s a mix of everything’.
