Alonso López got off to a great start in the Moto2 Spanish GP, leading the only free practice this morning. Beta Tools SpeedUp had the upper hand in this session.
After the first flying laps, the lead was held by Arón Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex), but was soon surpassed by López. The SpeedUp Spaniard was then overtaken by Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex). The two alternated at the top of the table until Fermín Aldeguer arrived.
The other Beta Tools SpeedUp rider put together a sequence of three fast laps to be in first place for about five minutes, before being beaten by Chantra. The Thai rider was unable to hold off López, who with 28 minutes gone set the fastest time of all: 1m40.797s. Thus, he was 0.120s ahead of Chantra.
Third place went to Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex), followed by Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex). Aldeguer completed the top five. Championship leader Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) set the eighth fastest time.
