Maverick Viñales is one of the men of the moment in MotoGP. The Aprilia rider dominated the Americas GP and arrives at the Spanish GP in third place in the World Championship – 24 points behind Jorge Martín’s (Prima Pramac/Ducati) lead.
The Spaniard showed in a press conference that he faces this round with his feet on the ground, considering it to be an interesting challenge… in addition to pointing out a primary goal:
– Obviously, repeating the same in Jerez is something we dream of and would be incredible. But we have to be realistic, we have to be smart, we have to be intelligent. It is obvious that not every weekend will be like Austin. But the important goal is to fight there every day – more than just a race, every day – to be at the top, trying to do the best performance we can with our bike. And especially in Jerez, a track that Spanish riders know very well, where all the factories test a lot, so it is a good challenge for us, to continue working and continue fighting at the front.
That said, Viñales showed confidence in the potential of the Aprilia in Jerez: ‘I didn’t see any negative aspects on this track for our bike, so we should be competitive and we should also have the peace of mind to be able to be at the level. This is important, to be at the level we left in Portimão and Austin.’ Finally, #12 commented: ‘Then there will be a test, which is important. It will be a challenging weekend for all of us, to try to deliver the best performance, and if it’s a win, I will be very happy‘.
