Prima Pramac Racing has been Ducati’s satellite team in MotoGP for about two decades, but they may be on the verge of moving to Yamaha. Team manager Gino Borsoi dismissed the rumors in early April, but speculation continues.
According to the website SPEEDWEEK.com – which cites ‘very well-informed sources’ – Paolo Campinoti’s team is in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Yamaha. The Iwata manufacturer has not had a satellite team since the former RNF moved to Aprilia at the end of 2022.
And, as is known, it is a strong goal to have one again in 2025, considering the importance it represents from a development point of view. In addition, Yamaha is the only one without at least one satellite team, while Ducati currently has three.
Currently, Pramac is Ducati’s main satellite team, being the only one to receive the latest version of the bike – having it for both riders. They were champions last year and saw their rider Jorge Martín fight for the title until the last race. This year, the Spaniard leads comfortably after three rounds.
Despite Pramac’s good situation and strong, long-standing relationship with Ducati, this partnership may now be coming to an end. The manufacturer from Borgo Panigale has reiterated that they are operating at the limit of their capacities and the other two satellite teams are showing results worthy of having the latest version of the bike.
A few weeks ago rumors emerged about the possibility of Pramac no longer having two factory bikes if they remain with Ducati – which would be a setback. Yamaha, on the other hand, has the capacity at all levels to have a satellite team and could contribute financially given the urgency to develop the bike.
Deadlines for decisions are approaching – for all preparations to be possible in a timely manner, everything must be finalized around the Italian GP scheduled for June 2. Therefore, it is possible that clarification and confirmation (or not) of the rumors of the past weeks may be imminent.
