The Portuguese and Americas GPs of MotoGP were not very positive for Francesco Bagnaia. The Ducati rider did not follow up on his victory in Portugal, did not return to fight for the podium, and before the Spanish GP, he is fifth in the championship.
The Italian commented in a press conference that he arrives at a round he particularly likes: ‘First of all, I am always happy to compete here, it is one of my favorite competition weekends because of the fans, the track, the weather – it seems like it’s not going to be that good. But, in any case, I am always happy to be here. I think we can be competitive as we have been in the last two years‘.
Without failing to recognize that he is going through a less good phase, Bagnaia believes he can turn things around in Spain: ‘Right now we are facing some problems that are slowing us down a bit. But I am sure, considering the amount of data and laps we have seen after Austin, that we can take a step forward‘.
And what makes Jerez such a good track for the Italian? The 2022 and 2023 champion answered: ‘Maybe because it is one of the first tracks where I competed in the past, when I arrived in the Spanish championship. It has always been a dream track where I wanted to be when I was young. So, maybe that’s the reason. But I love that it also has very big braking zones and fast corners, so it’s one of my favorites for that reason‘.
