Miguel Oliveira has managed to score points in every round of the MotoGP season so far, but not with the desired classifications. Next up is the Spanish GP, where he aims to translate the improvements he has been making with the Aprilia RS-GP into results.
The Trackhouse Racing Portuguese rider was asked about his goals for Jerez, to which he replied: ‘I don’t know. Every weekend the first goal is to get comfortable with the bike. We took a good step in Austin, so hopefully we can take another one here. Making that work and everything is related to Friday afternoon. So, we hope to perform well tomorrow afternoon and hopefully make our lives a little easier‘.
According to Oliveira, there has been progress with the bike, but it needs to be translated into results: ‘The good thing is that we have seen an improvement trajectory since Qatar, but we haven’t really been able to take a step forward in the results. Hopefully, this will be the weekend where we can actually make some progress‘.
After the progress made in the Americas GP, #88 believes that being stronger in qualifying could give him better chances in the race in Spain:
– I think the biggest improvement was in Austin. Then, for Sunday, we were able to be a bit more competitive. We set the seventh fastest lap of the race, very close to the front riders. Starting from where I was, I could basically get caught in some situations, which happened. This really compromised the result, but that’s it. I think here, if we can qualify a bit better, we can have a much better chance.
