MotoGP and Liberty Media will continue their journey together and many see this as an opportunity for the sport to grow in the United States of America, while others… are skeptical. Dan Rossomondo addressed some comments pointing out that the category is not as interesting in the country and that the local population does not seem to have interest in two-wheeled sports, while expressing other concerns.
One of the voices that spoke about MotoGP not being seen as an interesting sport to watch and that it may be difficult to attract new people to watch it more was Roland Sands, a well-known motorcycle designer and motorcycle rider, with the commercial director of Dorna commenting on the American’s words to CNN: ‘There is a cultural connection to global sports in the USA. I see how the Premier League has been doing, I see how F1 has been doing, and that is an important thing, so we are global, and that is a cool thing’.
Following Sands’ words, who said: ‘If we are going to do it for America, the program has to be in English, number one. Because here no one wants to see subtitles’, Rossomondo was clear and even gave an example of how those who do not speak English can be quite appealing:
– People say: ‘Your guys don’t speak English’, but it doesn’t matter. When was the last time you heard Lionel Messi give an interview in English? You haven’t, never. So, I think that is part of the opportunity in the USA.
