The opening round of the Moto2 European Championship season took place this weekend in Misano. Alberto Surra, competing at home, was the winner of the single race.
The Italian had secured the pole position. In order to do so, he beat Francesco Mongiardo (Fantic Cardoso Racing/Kalex) by 0.259s in qualifying. Mattia Casadei (Team Ciatti Boscoscuro) completed the front row of the grid.
In the race, Surra (Team Ciatti Boscoscuro) never gave up the lead, which he held at the end of every lap. However, he still had a strong opponent in Roberto García (Fantic Cardoso Racing/Kalex), crossing the finish line with just 0.180s ahead.
Much more exciting and thrilling was the battle for third place, in which Alberto Fernández (Finetwork Team/Boscoscuro) came out on top. The Spanish rider crossed the line 4.720s behind Surra, but with less than 0.200s ahead of the fifth-place finisher, Mongiardo. Between the two, Casadei finished fourth.
