Ryan Vickers overcame a big moment on the final lap, on the final corner, to secure his first double victory in the British Superbike Championship at the Navarra Circuit for the OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing team, crossing the finish line with a 0.277s advantage over Danny Kent and Kyle Ryde.
After being victorious in the first race of the year, this time in race 2 it was Kyle Ryde with a good start who launched himself to the front of Kent and Vickers, but on the fifth lap, the McAMS Racing Yamaha rider made a decisive move in turn 1 to take the lead.
Kent managed to hold off his rivals until the ninth lap, when Vickers returned to the front and despite Kent and Ryde putting a lot of pressure on him, the OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing rider was determined and kept his advantage to lead the standings before Oulton Park. His Yamaha rivals, Kent and Ryde, completed the podium.
Bridewell was disappointed when he was forced to abandon the fight for the podium on the ninth lap. The Honda Racing UK rider had managed to reach third from the third starting row, proving his pace on the new Fireblade.
It was a strong race for Leon Haslam, with the ROKiT Haslam Racing BMW Motorrad rider securing fourth place ahead of Christian Iddon on the Oxford Products Racing Ducati and the duo from Completely Motorbikes Kawasaki, Jason O’Halloran and Max Cook.
Glenn Irwin had a tougher second race to finish in eighth place for the Hager PBM Ducati team, ahead of Charlie Nesbitt and Peter Hickman who completed the top ten. It was also a disappointment for Rory Skinner who was forced to retire, while Fraser Rogers walked away unscathed after a quick fall in turn four.
