After praising the race that Maverick Viñales and Pedro Acosta made in Austin, Davide Tardozzi does not want to make excuses for the fact that Ducati was not as good, nor did he even complain about the tire selection, which caused some problems during last year in some races.
In statements to Sky, quoted in Motosan, the Team Manager of Ducati Lenovo Team emphasized that the choices made were correct: ‘The tire choice for Ducati was absolutely correct, as demonstrated by Enea’s 2:03.2s on the last lap’, he said, before explaining that there are other things that affect tire performance: ‘Then, if other bikes have different characteristics, wear out the tires more and cannot afford to use soft tires in the race, that is another issue’.
Tardozzi also analyzed the competition’s bikes and how they used the tire more: ‘On average, they used bikes with other characteristics, as far as we know Acosta’s soft tire in the Sprint was very worn. I think if KTM and Aprilia had used the soft tire, they would have used it more than us, if I were Viñales I would have chosen the medium because with the potential shown he could have won the race, as he did, with a tire of lower performance’.
The best result Ducati achieved was a second place for Marc Márquez (Gresini Racing) in the Sprint race, while Enea Bastianini was third in the long race.
