The start of the World Superbike season did not live up to Jonathan Rea’s expectations. The rider, who joined Pata Prometeon Yamaha this year, has only managed to score points once with an eighth place in the second race in Barcelona – results far from what he has shown he is capable of achieving.
This is a round that leaves the British rider excited, as he made clear himself: ‘I am really excited to go to Assen, because it is a track that I truly like, I have had a lot of success there in the past and I feel that it will be a very strong circuit for the Yamaha R1 WorldSBK as well‘.
In Rea’s opinion, the weather will be an important aspect to consider, as it will be important to start off on the right foot in the free practice sessions:
– As always in Assen in April, we need to pay attention to the weather. It will be the first time this season that we will have very cold conditions, so hopefully on Friday we can get a good feeling with my bike, my team and step by step work towards having a good race setup that we can fight for a good result on Saturday and Sunday.
The six-time champion also said: ‘It is always a very enjoyable event in the Netherlands, with many fans and a lot of support traveling for me as well coming from the UK. I have high expectations for the weekend and I am really looking forward to getting started‘.
