Close to three years later, Maverick Viñales returned to victory in MotoGP. The Aprilia rider achieved the win at the Americas GP last Sunday, also being the first since joining the Noale manufacturer in mid-2021.
The Spaniard said in a press conference that it is a triumph with great significance for him after the recovery he made to the top, but he highlighted the GP as a whole:
– It is obvious that this victory means a lot. So, probably when I realize this victory, I will feel that it is the most important and valuable to me – because of how I did it, how I recovered, and how I raced. But I will put this whole weekend in the box, not just the race.
Viñales then emphasized his family: ‘Doing this for my family, for the hard work they are doing, is fantastic. I feel more proud to repay this trust than for the victory. This is a crazy feeling and I feel fulfilled. I just want to keep going‘.
By winning the Americas GP, #12 became the first to take three different manufacturers to the top step of the podium – a fact to which he reacted like this: ‘It is obvious that it is very important because it is history. But at the moment I don’t pay too much attention, to be honest. But obviously it is very important because not many riders can do this‘.
