Currently, MotoGP only has one round in the United States of America each season – the Americas GP in Austin. In the future, there should be at least two GPs in the country again, as has happened in the past – especially now with the entry of Liberty Media as owner.
One of the projects is in the state of Tennessee, with the Flatrock Motorsports Park track being pointed out as a possibility. If confirmed, there would be a round “at home” for Justin Marks’ Trackhouse Racing team.
Asked by the website GPOne.com about this specific project, the leader replied: ‘The discussion is really looking at North America and determining where we can compete a second time. Those people in Tennessee are building a track to be able to host a MotoGP race, and I think it would be exciting. I live in Tennessee, so it would be exciting to have a race close to home‘.
That said, Marks emphasized that it is not the only possibility for a second GP in the United States of America, which in his view will be important to foster MotoGP interest in the country:
– There are some other opportunities out there and for MotoGP to take another step in popularity in the USA, we have to find another location. I know of some of these options and they are also very exciting, so let’s see.
