The Americas GP showed a fragile Honda from a competitive standpoint. Only Luca Marini finished the Sprint race and the main race, and the four riders from the Japanese manufacturer were consistently at the back of the pack since practice sessions.
Joan Mir has already admitted that they followed the wrong direction in terms of developing the new RC213V. Solutions are needed to improve performance, but even with the available concessions, the process of recovery and reaction to problems is slow and requires time.
One of the aspects Honda is working on is the engine. Mir confirmed this, without going into details: ‘Yes, they are also working on this for this season‘.
Marini, on the other hand, when asked about the engine, emphasized that it is one of several areas to improve: ‘It’s time to bring everything new, it’s not just the engine‘.
Takaaki Nakagami, from the LCR Honda satellite team, also admitted that not all existing problems can be solved by the engine: ‘I hope so, but I can’t say where this low potential comes from. Maybe you say, “maybe it’s the engine.” And an engine solves the problem for everything. I hope so, but right now I don’t feel this, because in the engine you can’t solve all the balance, the front feeling, or the rear grip. There are several problems at the moment‘.
