Álex Márquez finished the Americas GP in the last position that gives access to points. The Spanish rider thus only managed to score one point for the championship throughout the weekend, as he finished the Sprint race on Saturday in 14th place and consequently outside the points.
In the debrief, the Gresini Racing MotoGP™ rider talked about Sunday’s race and his journey throughout the weekend.
– ‘I had a good start and got a good position in the first corner, just like yesterday. There was no confusion in turn 2, which was good for us. Then I positioned myself well, I knew I had to save a lot of tire at the beginning, I was doing it, I was managing it very well and, in fact, I finished the race with a very good tire at the back. It’s a shame.’
He also added: ‘I made a small mistake in Turn 1, where I opened up a bit. Jack [Miller] was making a big effort at that moment, Bastianini didn’t come in at that point for a second and maybe when I passed him I should have been a little more patient, because I think we could have finished very well. So, it’s a shame, but I’m happy to have had the feeling again, to have returned to racing the way we have to race.’
