Pedro Acosta was in the fight for the top five in both races of the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas. On Saturday, he finished fourth in the Sprint race, while on Sunday he led and finished second behind an unbeatable Maverick Viñales (Aprilia). And, between the two races, he sought to make progress and improve what wasn’t so good.
The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rookie commented in a press conference: ‘As you can see, I managed to better manage the tires, because the Sprint race was a complete mess. When Jorge [Martín] passed me, I just got slower, slower, and slower, and also Aleix [Espargaró] was close to passing me‘.
The Sprint race served as a lesson for Acosta, who sought to apply the learnings in his riding during the main race in Austin – as he explained:
– In the main race, I was really trying to manage all of Sector 1 and this long right-hand corner and it was working. As for braking, also when I saw someone on the left, I gave a bit of space to be able to try to pass them on the exit. Because on Saturday, when Jorge passed me, he blocked me a bit and maybe because of this I couldn’t keep up with him on the straight.
