This Sunday was historic in the MotoGP World Championship. Maverick Viñales won for the first time a MotoGP main race since he joined Aprilia, becoming the third different manufacturer to reach the top step of the podium.
The Spanish rider’s debut in the premier class was in 2015 with Suzuki, where he claimed his first victory in the British GP the following year. In 2017, he moved to Yamaha, where he achieved eight wins until 2021.
After the controversial departure from the Yamaha team, in mid-2021 Viñales joined Aprilia. Since then, the progress of both the rider and the team has been remarkable, and this victory seemed like a matter of time.
The Americas GP showcased a very fast and strong Viñales. Yesterday, he won the Sprint race after securing pole position with a record lap. The victory in the main race seemed in jeopardy with a forgettable start.
But the #12 rider recovered with determination to clinch the win. In this way, he won for the third different manufacturer. No one has been able to do this in the past, not even riders like Jorge Lorenzo or Valentino Rossi.
