Pedro Acosta’s ability to surprise is becoming so common at the beginning of the MotoGP season that it is no longer a surprise. This Sunday, the rookie finished second in the Americas GP, even leading at one point. Once again, he had no problem battling with high-level riders like Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati), Maverick Viñales (Aprilia), or Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati), among others.
The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rider admitted in a press conference that he particularly enjoyed this race in Austin: ‘I was talking to my manager before and I said that since my days in Moto3 when I overtook several riders in the same race, I hadn’t enjoyed it like this. It was one of the most fun races of my life and I didn’t even win. It was quite enjoyable from the start of the race‘.
That being said, Acosta admitted that there were some difficulties, especially regarding the choice of tire, which was like a shot in the dark and made him nervous:
– It was a bit difficult, because we didn’t test the medium rear [tire] all weekend and it was maybe an unknown for me. Coming from Moto2, using the same compound for the whole weekend and the whole season. It’s true that I was a bit nervous before, on the grid. […]. Anyway, I really enjoyed the race and the whole weekend.
