Maverick Viñales showed once again that he is the main candidate to win the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas. After dominating Saturday in Austin, the Spanish rider started Sunday leading the warm-up from start to finish. Miguel Oliveira finished 12th.
Continuing his superiority from yesterday, Viñales (Aprilia) started leading in this warm-up, completing the first flying lap 0.802s faster than Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati).
The positions remained the same, but the times dropped to the 2m02s. In third place was Raúl Fernández (Trackhouse Racing/Aprilia), with Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM) in fourth.
None of the top four improved on their third flying laps, but they maintained their positions. However, Acosta was overtaken by Álex Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) and Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati).
Until the end, Viñales did not improve, but he retained the lead. Marc Márquez closed in, finishing 0.176s behind, while Fernández was third at 0.454s. Martín climbed to fourth with his final lap, with the top five rounded out by Álex Márquez.
Acosta finished sixth, just ahead of the official KTM riders Brad Binder and Jack Miller. Portuguese rider Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing/Aprilia) secured 12th place, while defending champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) could only manage 15th.
