Celestino Vietti was the fastest in the first phase of qualifying for the Americas GP of Moto2. This way, he secured a spot in the pole position discussion, along with three other riders who join the 14 qualified through practice.
After the first flying laps, Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) was leading, with Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) in second. Also in qualifying positions were Albert Arenas (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) and Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Kalex).
With the second attempt, Vietti reinforced his lead. Moreira and Arenas did not improve, but maintained their positions, while Jaume Masiá (Pertamina Mandalika GAS UP Team/Kalex) climbed to fourth swapping with Agius. There were seven minutes left for the checkered flag at that moment.
Less than three minutes before the end, Masiá moved up to second and Arenas to third, but the composition of the top four did not change. A yellow flag due to the fall of Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Kalex) affected the last laps for some riders.
No one could dethrone Vietti from the top of the table, with the Italian being 0.477s faster than Masiá. Arenas finished third and Moreira fourth. Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) ended up in fifth, missing out on Q2 by just nine thousandths.
