After a very disappointing Portuguese GP, Johann Zarco hopes to do better at the MotoGP Americas GP. The LCR Honda rider will be able to ride the RC213V, which has always been a reference bike in Austin since the circuit debuted in MotoGP – with eight wins in ten races.
The #5 commented before this round that he feels it is possible to have a good performance: ‘The break was good and I felt good during practice. There are so many good references on the Honda here, but clearly Marc [Márquez] and Álex Rins also love this track and they have always performed well. But this means that it is also possible to do something and I love having this feeling that it is possible, so this gives me a lot of motivation‘.
According to Zarco, there is still no obvious explanation for the difficulties he faced in the Portuguese GP, which does not take away his motivation: ‘We don’t have a clear explanation for the results in Portimão, which was very difficult and we started too far back in terms of performance on Friday. And the time to recover, anyway, was too late, we were not prepared for the race. That’s why I’m here again fresh to be motivated, to strive and see what will come during the weekend‘.
This is the first time the Frenchman will ride the Honda in Austin, and he believes that the bike could be useful for one of his weaknesses on this track: ‘I like the bike because it’s easy to move this bike and I like that; this can be useful for the first two sectors of the track and it’s usually where I’ve had the most difficulties in the past. So, I’m curious to see if maybe I’ll be good in this first part, enjoy the track more than in the past‘.
